Mike Johnson and his Tonedevil Gypsy Jazz Guitar
The last “Hot Club” band I saw was the Hot Club of Nashville featuring Richard Smith on guitar when we were exhibiting a few years ago at the Santa Barbara Acoustic Instrument Celebration, so I was delighted to hear our friend and client, Mike Johnson, was bringing his band “The Hot Club of Spokane” to Sandpoint to play for the annual Winter Ridge food tasting customer appreciation event. It was very well attended and featured free lunch for anyone who walked up. There were also free food and supplement samples given away at booths along the outside of the store.
The band was set up on a truck bed stage and absolutely killed it with their swing tunes and hot picking. While they’ve gone through a few different musicians over the course of the bands career, this tight 6 piece complimented each other well. Of course we were there to see mike showcase his new Tonedevil Gypsy Jazz model guitar. Watch the short video clip of the famous Django tune “Nuages” and see if we were able to reproduce the authentic sound of gypsy jazz guitar:
