After meeting with our China partners during the 2019 NAMM show in Anaheim, we were delivered the 3rd factory prototype harp guitar. Using our design and specs they have managed to produce a remarkable instrument that will be affordable for newer players wanting to get a harp guitar.
Dave demos the newest prototype in the video above playing his own arrangement of “Cannonball Rag” and highlights the instrument’s features. While it is not yet ready to ship they will be available in 2019 through our online distribution with Guitar Center and their affiliates, (Musicians Friend, Music 123, Amazon, eBay).
The most attractive feature is of course the price, projected to retail around $1500 USD. It will include the new custom fit case by Music Area, that uses thick foam with durable cordoba nylon exterior. Bundled also is the Tonedevil passive piezo contact pickup pre installed, which compliments nicely as can be heard in the video.
During our NAMM trip we stopped by Imperial Vintage Guitars in Orange, CA to help a friend check on a new acquisition. The sales clerk was intrigued by the harp guitar and spent a few minutes shredding it, having never played one before. His initial feedback and first impressions are what we have heard time and again from virgin listeners/players, such comments as “it has so much more sustain…”, and “it sounds like a piano…” were expressed enthusiastically as he climbed the fretboard with blistering speed and showed us his flourishing licks. The ending sentiment was he thought it sounded best played in minor keys, as we all agreed while hearing his pentatonic blues riffs and “Slash chords.”
While Tonedevil still maintains building their high quality American made instruments, this new imported harp guitar serves to provide a product to players who are on a budget. Each instrument will pass through the Sandpoint, Idaho facility to get inspected, set up, and have pickups installed before distribution. This ensures each one will pass the player test before it lands in the artist’s hands. There will be a product page made as soon as the model is ready, so check in and send us your comments as the year progresses!
